In October the ACT is staging SPIN: Canberra's Weekends on Wheels, a multi-sited event involving cars, bicycles, mountain bikes, sport motorcycles, caravans, wheelchairs, rollerblades as well as skateboards, spinning wheels and potters' wheels. Something for everyone!
The main weekend of SPIN will be October 19 and 20 and the NRMA has a major involvement in everything that is happening on this weekend.
NRMA Classic Car Club members will have the option of taking part in the club organised Canberra Spin which will be from Sydney to Canberra (but on a different route to the recent Canberra Centenary Drive) or joining the two day Centenary of Canberra rally which is over the full weekend. Details of this event are at http://www.nationaltrust.org.au/act/rally
The Canberra Spin will drive from the start in Sydney to the village of Tarago where cars on the Centenary of Canberra Rally will join us. We will also hear the sound of steam train ‘1210' from the Canberra Railway Museum bringing spectators to Tarago.
From Tarago all the cars will drive on to Canberra via Bungendore and Queanbeyan and puffing close by will be ‘1210' taking passengers back to Canberra.
The Canberra Spin cars will peel off and go to the NRMA site at Fyshwick where they will be on display for the afternoon. At the site there will be a free cabaret featuring the first and only performance of The Petrolsexuals who only sing songs about cars!
Registration for the Canberra Spin will open at the end of August and it will be a one day event on Saturday October 19th. However as there will be a lot of motoring things happening in Canberra over that weekend and as some members might want to stay, you are advised to book your accommodation now.

In 2013, the ACT and Australian governments are celebrating 100 years since Canberra was officially named Australia's capital. A series of events including exhibitions, activities and initiatives across the ACT are running throughout the year.
The Centenary of Canberra is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate this momentous occasion in our country's history and to explore the many facets - local, regional, national and international - of our nation's capital.
On Monday 11th March, the NRMA took part in Canberra's 100th birthday celebrations. More than 150,000 Canberrians came down to Lake Burley Griffin to celebrate.
The theme of the event was ‘Canberra in so many words'. Naturally HELP was the most obvious choice to describe NRMA and messages of support were written on these letters to thank local patrols for their service over the years. The site included an exclusive Members only area, a Members café, three vintage vehicles on display, a promotional stand with thanks to Safer Driving Schools and a sausage sizzle run by the Volunteer Rescue Association.
Overall the feedback on the day was extremely positive from Members who really enjoyed the NRMA's presence at the event.
